Obesity Canada’s mission to improve the lives of Canadians living with this disease has made us a patient-centered organization, and so we rely heavily on our volunteers to ensure that our efforts have the greatest impact and are relevant to the very people we are trying to help.

Our patient focus begins and ends with our Public Engagement Committee, a group of dedicated volunteers who contribute to Obesity Canada by sharing their lived experience, representing the patients on research and educational initiatives and serving on every committee within the network. They also play a key role in our advocacy efforts. Without the contributions of these special individuals, we would not be able to do what we do.

Since 2015, Marty Enokson has been one of our dedicated volunteers, sharing his experience and working with the Public Engagement Committee.  As the inaugural chair of the committee, Marty contributed to the growth of the volunteer core and the development and training of other patient advocates.  Marty’s passion and dedication was recognized on a global scale in 2018 when he received the “Bias Buster of the Year” award from the Obesity Action Coalition in the U.S.

We are sad to say Marty is moving on to other challenges, but we at Obesity Canada are grateful for his invaluable contributions to our program and hope you will join us in wishing him all the best in his future endeavours.

Thank you, Marty!
