We are excited to announce that we will be hosting an abbreviated, updated version of the “Obesity Bootcamps”, Obesity Research Training in conjunction with the Canadian Obesity Summit, taking place May 14-17, 2023 in Whistler British Columbia. The Obesity Research Training will offer graduate students and new professionals (within 5 years of graduation), the opportunity to experience this advanced training in obesity research.

Obesity Canada continues to be committed to excellence in research and research training to help create a more equitable, diverse and inclusive Canadian research community. This unique and comprehensive capacity-building training program will bring together trainees, post doctoral fellows and early career professionals from diverse areas of obesity research for a one of a kind, immersive learning opportunity.

The program will consist of six hours of in-person sessions in Whistler as well as some virtual-training both pre and post Summit. Information about the program and faculty can be found here.

Sessions will be taught by leading Canadian experts, paired with unmatched networking, which historically were extremely popular and helped launch the careers of many Canadian obesity scholars.  Many former “bootcampers” have moved on to become leading experts in their fields of academia, government and industry including Dr. Mary Forhan, Obesity Canada’s Scientific Director and Dr. Sean Wharton who was the co-lead on the Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines.
