Job Description: Social Media Coordinator

Job Type: Part-time, contract

Salary: $18.00-$22/hr (based on experience)

Hours: The position is part-time, Monday through Friday with the possibility of full-time dependent on funding

Location: Applicant will be required to work remotely from home

Obesity Canada is Canada’s leading obesity charity, made up of healthcare professionals, researchers, policy makers and people with an interest in obesity.

Position Summary

Under the direction of Obesity Canada’s Operations and Communications Directors, this position is responsible for developing work plans as a team and creating engaging content for OC’s  social media presence including keeping social media channels updated and brand-focused.  Monitor social media accounts for leverageable opportunities to increase engagement or respond to emergent stakeholder needs.

The incumbent must have exceptional computer skills with a solid understanding of office procedures and practices. The candidate must possess strong communication, customer relations and organizational skills. The successful candidate must be motivated to work productively on their own, but is also able to work as part of a creative team.

Experience with video editing, content creation and implementing social media activities are strong assets. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in taking on increasing responsibility, an aptitude for learning on the job, and enthusiasm. A social media coordinator who has a successful experience with Obesity Canada, and is thinking of pursuing a career in an applicable field, could be retained by the employer at the conclusion of the placement.

Responsibilities / Activities

Support overall digital marketing strategies through content planning, execution and reporting across all media platforms
Stay up-to-date on new social media trends and best practices and share them with the team
Manage all duties related to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, YouTube) and Google Ads/Campaigns
Proposes, develops and implements new strategies, concepts and campaigns for social media content to increase search engine optimization (written, graphic(s) and video)
Develop and produce creative written and visual content that promotes audience interaction and participation
Assists to best solve existing inclusivity issues and to include accessibility features whenever possible (eg. closed captioning, subtitles etc.)
Assist Obesity Canada team as necessary with large projects, events, and initiatives
Assist with developing and maintaining OC’s social media content calendar
Engage with online communities, respond to inquiriesOngoing social media analysis including specific campaign reporting/analysing, including Google Campaigns
Work with the marketing and OC team members to coordinate all campaigns to ensure they are aligned with the social media strategy
Work closely with the Director of Operations and the Communication Director to assist with managing social media communications
Performs check-ins with social media influencers where appropriate
Assist with photoshoots/capture behind the scenes content – occasional onsite visits

Qualifications and experience:

Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma in marketing or communications (preferred)
In depth understanding of social media platforms , including but limited to Instagram, Facebook, You Tube LinkedIn, and Tik Tok
Experience with Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Suite and Adobe Pro (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
Experience in video editing, photography and Canva is an asset
Experience working with content scheduling tools such as  Buffer
Past experience running paid ads is an asset
Certification in Google Ads is essential
Certification in Facebook BluePrint and Twitter flight school is an asset
Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
Works extremely well under pressure and is able to multitask on concurrent projects with competing priorities
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency in French is an asset
Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
Passionate about healthcare equity
