Congratulations, Dr. Laurie Twells on receiving the TOPS New Investigator Research Award!

TOPS has been a supporter of Obesity Canada for more than a decade, and sponsoring the TOPS New Investigator Research Award is our way of acknowledging the truly innovative and important research that goes on in Canada. This award recognizes an individual for a singular achievement or their career contributions to research in the field of obesity.

This year’s recipient is Dr. Laurie Twells. Dr. Twells is an Associate Professor in the School of Pharmacy & Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She is a clinical epidemiologist with expertise in epidemiology, health economics, health policy, primary data collection and analysis of large administrative datasets. Her current research publications are in the area of the epidemiology of adult obesity in Canada, bariatric surgery as a treatment for obesity and the prevention of childhood obesity with a focus on infant nutrition.

I think it is important to mention that the glowing nomination letter for Dr. Twells was jointly submitted by two former TOPS New Investigator Award winners, which is surely an endorsement of her worthiness for this award.
