Have you or someone you know ever experienced weight bias or discrimination in some aspect of your life? Obesity Canada wants to hear your story.

Weight bias is often thought of as the last openly acceptable form of discrimination in society, and it is extremely common and harmful:

  • Elementary school kids with obesity face a 63% higher chance of being bullied
  • 54% of adults with obesity report being stigmatized by coworkers
  • 64% of adults with obesity report experiencing weight bias from a health care professional
  • 72% of images and 77% of videos stigmatized persons with obesity according to recent media studies

Obesity Canada is dedicated to addressing weight bias. In order to do that, we need to know what issues Canadians are experiencing so we can develop a strong case for why change is needed.

Your story will help our advocacy efforts so we can make policy makers understand the personal toll bias and discrimination have on individuals living with obesity.

Please note: Obesity Canada does not provide medical or legal advice or support.

Share your story using the form below. Please note that parts of your submission may appear on the Obesity Canada website, in our social media feeds and in other media. Your submission will remain completely anonymous. Your name and other personal identifiers (e.g., employer name, city/postal code, etc.) will be removed from any public postings of your story or parts of it. We only ask for your contact information in case we need to verify or clarify your story.

Please use each submission for a single issue. If you have experienced weigh bias multiple times or in multiple settings, please submit separate forms for each case.  The more submissions we have, the more accurate the picture of weight bias we can develop and the more compelling our calls to action will be. There is no limit to the number of submissions you can make.
