Geoff Ball is the Alberta Health Services Chair in Obesity Research and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. He is also the Founding Director of the Pediatric Centre for Weight and Health, a multidisciplinary weight management clinic at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, AB. Geoff’s clinical and applied health research program applies a number of approaches, including clinical trials, qualitative research, epidemiology, and knowledge syntheses that are designed to generate, evaluate, translate, and apply new knowledge to optimize obesity prevention and management for children and families. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa, Maryam Kebbe is now a 4th year PhD Candidate, Graduate Research Assistant, and Teaching Assistant at the University of Alberta. Maryam’s research interests lie primarily in the co-production and translation of knowledge in obesity; Conversation Cards for Adolescents were a result of her thesis work with Dr. Geoff Ball and a collaboration with Obesity Canada. In addition to securing local, provincial, and national scholarships, Maryam has authored or co-authored over 10 published manuscripts, 25 conference abstracts, and 20 invited presentations. In her spare time, Maryam is involved in academic leadership, including chairing steering committees, reviewing abstracts and manuscripts for publication, and most recently, establishing and co-leading a Patient-Oriented Research Collection on CMAJ Open.
