Today’s post comes from Rebecca Christensen. Rebecca is a PhD Student in Epidemiology in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Toronto. She is also the current Vice Chair of the OC-SNP National Executive.

For those of you who are unaware, the Canadian Obesity Student Meeting (also known as COSM) is a student run conference held in alternating years to the Canadian Obesity Summit. The 7th COSM will be held at York University in Toronto, Ontario from June 17th to 20th, 2020.

COSM is a great opportunity for students and early stage researchers to get the chance to share their work in a warm, and supportive academic environment. Because this is a student run conference, there are also several panels and events geared towards up and coming researchers. For example, there will be a Women in Science Panel featuring established, and up and coming women researchers and clinicians. In addition, there will be a special Leadership Workshop facilitated by the Obesity Canada – Student a New Professionals (OC-SNP) National Executive. There is also still a strong presence of established clinicians, scientists, and researchers at the meetings, and lots of opportunities to network with these individuals.

Speaking as a former York University graduate student, I am also excited that COSM is being held at the beautiful York University Keele Campus. This is a self-contained campus located in North York, Ontario. In addition to having beautiful scenery and calming places to enjoy on campus such as the large pond with dock located on campus, there was also recently the addition of a subway (or metro) stop on campus facilitating easy access to downtown Toronto.

For more information, please see the COSM website. The abstract submission portal is also now open.

I hope to see you there!
