On September 30th, Obesity Canada’s Victoria Local Chapter held it’s first ever event.
A successful event with many attendees from the local TOPS club were in attendance to support the newest chapter.
After some networking time, Elena, chapter Chair, gave a presentation on Obesity Canada which was followed by a presentation by Public Engagement member, Kelly Moen.  In the end people had a chance to ask their questions and share their concerns. The most discussed topics were an interaction with health professionals with weight bias and choosing/cooking healthy food.
The Executive Committee of the Victoria Chapter got very valuable ideas about next events. In additional to events with a focus on communication with health professionals about weight, and food (nutrition labels, reducing sugar intake, learning where food comes from), people want to have chef night with a dietitian and presentation by Dr. Sharma.
With such a successful event, we look forward to planning more events in the coming months in Victoria.
