We are aware of the concerns raised by the Coronavirus outbreak (also known as COVID-19), and our thoughts are with everyone who has been directly affected.

The health and wellbeing of our members is of utmost importance. Recommendations from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the World Health Organization (WHO) to reduce the impact of this pandemic indicate an increasing number of travel and public gathering restrictions for health care providers and hospitals, as well as academic institutions globally due to COVID-19.

At this time, the recommendations from Obesity Canada are to follow the Government of Canada travel alerts and information and to avoid all non-essential travel to countries flagged as ‘high risk.’

We also encourage all of our local chapters, students and new professionals and members in general to cancel or postpone Obesity Canada (OC) gatherings and meetings until new information becomes available. Alternatively we encourage you to meet virtually.

Please contact Nicole Pearce (pearce@obesitynetwork.ca) or phone (780)492-8361 at the OC office for assistance pertaining to virtual OC meetings.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will update accordingly as we work to help keep our communities healthy and safe.

Thank you for your continuing support of Obesity Canada.
