Help close gaps in obesity care

Obesity is a chronic disease, but access to care across Canada is still uneven. Where someone lives, what they can afford, what their benefits cover and which services are available can all shape the care they receive.

The State of Obesity Care in Canada report identifies five gaps holding back better care, from measurement and primary care to surgery, medication coverage and psychological support.

Send the report to your elected officials and ask them to support policies that recognize, measure, fund and deliver obesity care as chronic disease care.

Ask your government to improve access to obesity treatments

Obesity is a progressive, relapsing chronic disease. Multiple approved and effective treatments and medications are available. For many Canadians living with obesity, access to medications depends on private insurance or the ability to pay out of pocket, rather than clinical need.

Send a message to your representative and ask your government to make all Health Canada approved obesity treatments, including medications, part of publicly funded healthcare and drug plans.

The cost of inaction is too high

Obesity is a chronic disease, yet too many Canadians can’t access the care they need. Without action, the personal, health and economic costs will only rise.

Join us in calling for better access to evidence-based obesity treatment.
