Are you pregnant or know someone who is? Help us test our evidence-based smartphone health app for pregnant women!

Poor healthy behaviours during pregnancy can increase the risk for complications for both mom and baby, including later life obesity. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted several health services and in-person contact between pregnant women and healthcare providers has become drastically restricted. We need to find innovative solutions to support women with leading a healthy pregnancy.

Today’s moms are more tech savvy and are looking for personalized, real-time feedback to assist them with having better behaviours. SmartMoms Canada is an evidence-based, mobile health (mHealth) application that provides a prenatal lifestyle intervention program delivered in real-time directly to your smartphone or tablet.

We are looking for pregnant women who can test our SmartMoms mobile app! The overall goal of the SmartMoms Canada study is to help our participants experience a healthful pregnancy, including maintaining adequate weight gain throughout, which can benefit women and their children. All interaction occurs through intervention features within the app, such as SmartTips for healthy habits, Exercise recommendations, and updates on baby development. Participants also have access to personal weekly weight gain goals based on the guidelines and are able to see their daily information regarding physical activity, sleep, and nutrition using the SmartMoms Canada Health page.

We are currently recruiting women ≤20 weeks pregnant, carrying a single fetus, age 18-40 years, and with a pre-pregnancy body mass index between 18.5-39.9 kg/m2. Women living anywhere in Canada can participate in this study. We ask our participants to install and use our SmartMoms Canada app, as well as the other devices that we provide: 1) Fitbit tracker and 2) Body+ scale, on their phone or tablet. Other than using the devices and apps, we ask participants to fill out some online questionnaires on Google Forms at 6 time points from early pregnancy to one year postpartum. There is no cost to participating in this study. If you have any questions, please contact smartmomscanadaapp@gmail.com
