Today’s blog post is brought to you by Lucien Junior Bergeron, Chief Operating Officer of the Quebec Cardiometabolic Health, Diabetes and Obesity Network – www.rrcmdo.ca/en.

Created in April 2012 by the Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), the mission of the Cardiometabolic Health, Diabetes and Obesity Research Network is to develop excellent research in these fields, to transmit knowledge and to promote the quality of life of Quebecers.

The Quebec CMDO Network is launching a call for doctoral students, residents and postdoctoral fellows for its French Winter Camp which will take place from February 3 to 7, 2023 at the Chéribourg Hotel, Orford. The objective of the Winter Camp is to provide intensive “all expenses paid” training in interactive workshops with internationally renowned speakers. Networking is also a priority in order to increase interactions with colleagues both locally and internationally.

This translational research training will integrate the three main themes of the network: Cardiometabolic Health; Diabetes; Obesity and; Patient-oriented research. As well as the four research Axis: Basic and pre-clinical research; Nutrition, Physical Activity and Human Pathophysiology (Clinical Research); Lifestyle, risk factors and population interventions across the life cycle (Population research); Organization of care, knowledge sharing and utilization (Health system research).

This year we will again have participants from the Institute of Cardiometabolism and Nutrition (ICAN, Paris, France), the Association Française d’Etude et de Recherche sur l’Obésité (AFERO, France) and an international post-doctoral fellow (with a view to recruiting in Quebec). Francophone participants from outside Quebec, members of Action Diabetes Canada and/or Obesity Canada, are invited to attend the camp. One or two seats are reserved for each of our partners.

Pre-camp activities: 1) Two practical workshops in videoconference: 2) Approximately 22 hours of video clips (16 theory lessons) prepared by our experts and covering all CMDO themes, from the molecule to the population; 3) Practical exercise – Writing, as a team, a letter of intent for an international project with constructive feedback/comments during the camp – to win a $500 conference grant for each member of the winning team. Finally, during the camp, participants are invited to 1) participate in a series of interactive thematic workshops, 2) as well as a full mock grant review, and 3) engage in discussions with experts during networking events.

The deadline for applications is November 10, 2022.

Women, Aboriginal people, visible minorities, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply. For evaluation purposes, we strive to recruit a diverse committee that reflects the profiles of the applicants and ensure an evaluation process that takes into account the particular situations of the applicants, including atypical trajectories.

The eligibility criteria and evaluation process are described in the guide – visit the Winter Camp web site by clicking HERE.
