Work remains ongoing to complete an update of Canada’s Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for Managing Pediatric Obesity. Recent achievements and activities include:
– Our systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the effectiveness and safety of (1) pharmacotherapy and (2) surgery for managing pediatric obesity were reviewed favourably by Pediatric Obesity. Minor edits are needed to finalize these reports, which should be published and available online over the coming months. Final pdfs will be made available on the OC website.
– Our reviews on (1) behavioural and psychological interventions and (2) clinical assessment are close to completion and will be submitted to Pediatric Obesity for external review this spring.
– The data from all these reviews are being synthesized for and presented to our Guideline Panelists, which includes 18 members with expertise in diverse areas (lived experience, obesity, pediatrics, nutrition, physical activity, mental health, family medicine, systematic review and guideline methodology). The Guideline Panel is charged with appraising all the available evidence using the GRADE framework/resources, and generating recommendations that are at the heart of the CPG.
The authors are aiming for a guideline publication date in the fall 2024.
